Customer support for expansion joint installation and repair saves time and money

Case in point
One company was using OEM expansion joints on ductwork between an economizer, an air heater and ducts on a new boiler that could reach temperatures up to 593 degrees C. These joints consistently developed holes and leaks, even after repairs were made, resulting in numerous unplanned outages to repair the expansion joints. The HOLZ team provided replacement fabric expansion joints that were designed and constructed for the conditions, and offered field support for the new installation. The replacement fabric expansion joints solved the problems at the site, eliminating downtime due to damaged joints.
Another customer was installing an aged flue duct expansion joint on an electrostatic precipitator (ESP). Since the ESP is up to 25 feet above ground, the fabric expansion joint, manufactured by HOLZ, must be carefully lifted using a support base where the lifting tackles can be attached; however, the installers (workers from the customer’s plant) instead used the bolt holes to lift the joint into place, causing the areas around the bolt holes to rip. The plant employees immediately called HOLZ customer service for help, and it was determined that the severity of the tear did not require a new expansion joint. Instead, the problem could be solved by splicing and correcting the torn areas, saving the plant both time and money. A splicing kit, complete with instructions, was immediately sent to the customer, and the problem was resolved onsite. The plant was able to restore operations without a delay.
