Enel X helps apple company save costs with energy-storage solution
Algoma Orchards saved costs with Enel X's help.
埃奈尔X北美公司has a history of success stories with helping Ontario companies find a better energy solution in terms of storage. One example is Algoma Orchards, a family-owned orchard in the Durham Region with a cider facility and apple-packing centre. Here is how Enel X helped this company reduce Global Adjustment (GA) charges while earning demand-response (DR) payments, with better storage.
An opportunity to cut costs
For nine years,Algomahas partnered with Enel X to earn payments through DR programs, which offer financial incentives to businesses that reduce energy demand when grid operators call upon them. The company also participates in the Industrial Conservation Initiative, which creates an opportunity to lower annual electricity costs substantially. The GA charge results in high electricity costs, which providers pass onto customers’ bills to cover the costs of generating capacity and conservation programs. Algoma needed an energy solution that reduced costs without disrupting production or compromising product quality.
Algoma turned toEnel X, which recommended its system-peak predictor program. This system uses a complex predictive model to evaluate the daily likelihood of a system peak event on the grid, based on weather information and market data. The energy solution enables Enel X develop a custom demand-reduction plan and develop daily notifications of system-peak likelihood. If the likelihood is high, the user can enact its load-curtailment plan to reduce GA charges.
Enel X worked with Algoma to select, finance, and install an energy-storage system to reduce grid demand while powering key equipment, for maximum potential savings. The system automatically charges the battery system when prices are low and transitions the building’s load onto the battery system when peak events are likely, and when DR programs demand load curtailment. Algoma installed the energy system with no upfront costs or investment risk.
